When Janet Nepales contacted me to do an interview about the upcoming film adaptation of The Mango Bride I expected a few quick questions about the director, cast members and other details from the original articles in Variety and Deadline.
To my surprise, Janet wanted to talk about a whole slew of topics, from Suddenly Stateside my out of print anthology of funny essays on immigrant life; to Centering the Margins, Conversations with Writers of Color, a three day gathering of writers, publishers, literary agents, and publicists of color that I organized several years ago and my fundraising efforts to benefit survivors of domestic violence.
