Skype has significantly expanded the ways in which authors can connect with readers. Some weeks ago, Boston-based artist Bren Bataclan contacted me through this website to invite me to chat with the Boston Filipino American Book Club. Skype has its challenges and there were a few dropped calls, but overall, the discussion was lively and chatting with readers across the country was a genuine delight.
Each skype session offers an opportunity to learn from one’s mistakes. The first couple of sessions, I realized in hindsight that backlighting puts my face in shadow. When Bren sent me a photo they’d taken during the session I realized that given the small frame of a laptop screen, I looked virtually naked in my spaghetti-strapped sundress. California’s been too hot lately to wear anything else, but I should have known better. Live and learn.

Maraming salamat for Skyping with us. We truly enjoyed the discussion. As mentioned, “Mango Bride” is one of BFAB’s favorite books of all time.
The pleasure was all mine. Thank for sharing your thoughts and questions with me!
As per his CV on- line, Bren Bataclan is no longer a “Professor” at U Mass Amherst since 1997 for your readers information. He is a self employed artist.
Thank you, I have revised the blog post accordingly.
